I think one of the best things that have happened
I think one of the best things that have happened from being the CEO of an employee-owned company is—look, we have 485 employees. And I have 485 bosses! I feel accountable to every one of them. It’s not a situation in which you feel like if you can just keep the board of directors happy, that is enough. My own personal belief is that I think everybody needs guidance Everyone needs help. Everyone needs a boss. And I don’t mean a boss in a way where you need somebody to micro-manage you. You need a system of checks and balances. We are so transparent, we practice open-book management, and we operate on mutual trust. There’s an appreciation of the concept of a team of owners working together to build a company. It’s more about how do you support that, how do handle that, how the hell do you get out of the way to let them do what they do best? And don’t get too enamored with ideas and concepts that take you away from those core fundamentals.
